“There once was a Tiger Striped Cat, this cat, died a million deaths, revived & lived a million lives & he was owned by various people, who he really didn’t care for, the cat wasn’t afraid to die, then one day the cat became a stray cat, which meant he was free, he met a white female cat & the two of them spent their days together happily, well years passed & the white cat grew weak & died of old age, the Tiger Stripped Cat cried a million times then he died too…except this time, he didn’t come back to life”—Cowboy Bebop. So I have class really soon and I’m not enthusiastic for it tonight at all right now. I need a nap so bad. My birth control is also making me overly emotional and lately it’s getting the best of me since I’m not adjusted to this prescription just yet. I just want to sleep the weekend away. Yeah. That’d be great.
The human brain has certain things pre-programmed in it to tell it what beauty is. People finding one another attractive was created to reproduce. Therefore, what we define as beauty, is when an individual possesses qualities that can give their offspring good genes.
When an individual develops with a lot of the estrogen hormone in their system, they get full lips, large eyes, small ears, wide hips, a small waist, and full breasts. Estrogen is a vital hormone for a woman to have in her system to have good genes, and reproduce easily. Therefore, when we see similar features to these on a woman, she is considered beautiful because our brains are programmed to know this is attractive.
As for weight, we are attracted to whatever weight is considered healthy in our environment. This is because our brains are attracted to a healthy looking person since they would provide the healthiest offspring. Therefore in America, we are generally attracted to thin/skinny people since food is so accessible in our country and most overweight people in our country struggle with their health/weight. In contrast, people in Africa are generally attracted to overweight people because food is so scarce, and people are unhealthy when they are very skinny.
All in all, I hate when people complain about the media putting these ideas of what beauty is in our heads. Because, where do you think they get it from? It all starts from everyone’s human brain. It is how our brains are chemically programmed to react these^ features.
